In 1984, a severe flood destroyed the homes and livelihood of people in the suburbs of a city called Eluru. The villagers lost everything. Hope Ministries was asked to do something to help the children and villagers. While we were praying for this need and God's direction, God allowed our path to cross with a young church called Upper Room Fellowship in Columbiana, Ohio. At the same time, God was speaking to Upper Room Fellowship about India. Upper Room Children's Home was established in a rented, thatched-roof house.
We started the home with three orphans that came to our door. Within a few days, our children’s home was filled to capacity with needy children. Later, God provided the funds to buy a piece of land and build permanent buildings.
In addition to the ministry to the children, a group of evangelists is being supported to preach the Gospel in the surrounding villages. A church was also established with the new converts.
