Joseph Beera

9/26/2022

Dear Friends,

My brother, Joseph Beera, the vice president of Mission of Hope in India, had a mild stroke on 25 September 2022 around 9:30 pm.

He had spoken at a youth meeting then collapsed when he returned home.  He was taken to the local doctor who tested him, diagnosed a mild stroke, then recommended Joseph be transported to a specialist.  Joseph was driven two and a half hours to a larger hospital in Rajahmundry. Tests confirmed that he had had a stroke.  He is now in ICU. More tests are underway to decide what more needs to be done.

Please lift him up in your prayers.  Thank you!

Jacob Beera

Update 2 Nov. 2022: Joseph has had a stent inserted and is currently still somewhat weak but recovering ... thank you for your prayers.

HMI Strategy During the Pandemic

12/10/2020

The following article was included in the December 2020 Newsletter to explain how Hope Ministries adapted to the Covid-19 crisis in 2020 and describes the current plan to move forward ...

In the August 2020 Newsletter, I summarized how Jaya and I had our travel plans delayed by the global pandemic. In the early part of our 2020 India missions’ trip, before significant spread of Covid 19, we were still able to hold our annual Gospel Meeting in Mori and visit some of our children’s homes. By the end of the trip, we were already beginning to shift the focus of the ministry due to the impact of the corona virus on both community needs and health agency restrictions.

When the pandemic began in March 2020, schools were shut down by government decree. Soon after the schools closed, the child welfare required us to send all of the children in our children’s homes back to their families or relatives. Even when we told the authorities that we had secure campuses for the children to stay, they still forced us to send them home. The children didn’t want to go home, because they knew it would be difficult to get enough food to eat at their homes. Presently, there are no children in our children’s homes

While we are waiting for schools to re-open and our children to return to our children’s homes, we have been using child support funds to distribute food to needy families and help the sick financially, along with others who come to us for help. Support to our pastors and evangelists was never interrupted and in addition to serving special, pandemic related needs in our local communities, we have also stepped up food and other assistance to our affected pastors and evangelists. This is a continuation of the types of outreach we described in the prior newsletter.

After approximately a half year of emergency redirection of ministry funds to meet the needs of the coronavirus crisis, we have restarted saving the child support funds in anticipation of children returning to the children’s homes. We will be glad to return to one of our core Ministry functions, serving the needs of orphaned and needy children, but we have also been encouraged to be able to step into other forms of ministry during this health crisis. We wish to thank all of you for your continued prayer and financial support for the Ministry through this extraordinarily unique and challenging time. We are continuing to pray for all of you, too, that you stay healthy and weather this crisis through God’s grace.

High Mill Youth VBS India Testimonial

10/4/2016

In January of 2016, a youth team from High Mill Church conducted a VBS for the children in India.  More about the VBS is contained in the August 2016 Newsletter.  Hope Ministries received a letter from the parents of one of the High Mill youth who attended talking about the impact the missions trip had on their son.  That testimonial letter is reproduced below:

Dear Jacob & Jaya,

We want to thank you for all you did for the team that came from High Mill.  Our son Paul was so touched by the people there.  He was so blessed by the love and it was so awesome to see how God moved in the lives there in India.  He will always be changed and wants to come back next year "God willing."  We are so thankful Paul had this opportunity to experience God moving in the people and children.  We continue to pray for your Ministries and the children there.  May God bless you for your obedience each day as you serve the Lord.

Love,

James and Ranita

Pray "Well"

2/20/2016

Please pray as Jacob travels over the next two weeks through the Jungle areas.  Two borewells have been dug and Jacob will check on the installation of needed components to make them operational.  Cement will need to be obtained and poured around the well sites to make the water collection sites  permanent places.

A Pastor in the Jungle area has been preaching to a tribal group of Hindus.  He reports some 15-20 becoming Christians.  There is an existing borewell in the area.  The remaining Hindus from the village are withholding access to the water from the new Christians.  Jacob must decide if  drilling  a new well is the answer needed.  Please pray that favor could be shown to the new Indian Christians as they attempt to live out their new found freedom in Christ.

Jacob will continue to travel to check on the work at the various Homes.  He reports to have many speaking opportunities and several invitations to officiate at weddings.

Another need that is becoming more apparent is the vehicle that is used for the traveling.  It is a 1999 Indian made SUV.  The replacement cost is approximately $20,000 USD.  Please pray that God will provide as this need becomes more pressing.

Gospel Meeting Report

2/17/2016

During the recent Gospel meetings, Jacob reports witnessing many hundreds of conversions. Jacob also shared about some particularly amazing healing.

  • A husband and wife traveled over 200 miles to attend the Gospel meetings.  Upon arriving, they stayed overnight sleeping in the pendal, an outdoor covered area.  When they awoke, the husband was paralyzed on one side of his body. Jacob was called to pray for healing.  He prayed and the meeting continued.  After the meeting was over the husband approached Jacob praising God for a complete healing from the paralysis. During the next meeting time, the man was able to give this wonderful testimony to the crowd.

  • A Hope Ministry Pastor and his wife were traveling on a motorcycle through a jungle area.  There was an accident and the wife fell injuring her wrist very badly.  They went to a village clinic where the attendants mishandled the injury.  There was much swelling and a good deal of pain.  A bone in her wrist seemed to be broken.  She refused to go to a hospital believing for a healing. During the Gospel meetings a healing prayer was spoken over the injury and by the time the meeting was over the swelling was gone and there was no more pain.  The hand and wrist were restored.  Praise God!!!!

  • A mother brought her one year old son forward for prayer at Hope Church in Mori.  A sickness had taken over his body causing his right eye to water continually.  Prayer was spoken over the boy for healing.  By the end of the week, his healing was complete and he was healthy with no recurring symptoms.

Back to India and Back to Ministry

2/6/2016

We are doing well and we had a successful four-day crusade at our headquarters in Mori India.  Many people gave their lives to Jesus and some were baptized.  God touched and healed some people.  Please continue to remember us in your prayers.  Thanks!

Jacob

Open House for Beera Family

6/7/2015

On June 6, 2015 we had an opportunity for friends and sponsors of Hope Ministries to meet-and-greet the whole Beera family before they return to India.  It was a pleasure to meet Jacob and Jaya's children, Jesse and Stacy, so now we can identify with them better as Jacob writes about them in his newsletters.

Although the Beera Family were the guests of honor, we had a great time of fellowship and many old friendships were renewed.  The open house was held at the First Friends pavilion but there was a strong showing from High Mill and other area churches.  Even with competing graduation parties, weddings and vacations, we were glad to see over a hundred friends turn out for the event.  Maybe we need to do this again next year!

Ok, the picture's a couple of years old, but it's exciting to announce that Jacob and Jaya are making final arrangements to bring their children, Jesse and Stacy, to the US with them in the next couple of weeks.  We're praying that final visa details will go smoothly and we'll see the whole Beera family soon.  Jacob says the kids are jumping with excitement to be able to join their parents in this year's US visit.
